Premium Granules for Turf Safety, Bounce, and Longevity

Select Your Infill Type

Four materials, four different jobs. What is right for your field depends on how it gets used, what it needs to cost, and who plays on it.

Crumb Rubber

Crumb Rubber (SBR)

The long-established, budget-friendly infill, still widely used and well understood.

Recycled SBR from repurposed tires. The most affordable option by a wide margin, with decades of proven performance, strong shock absorption and energy return, and easy availability. It does warm up in summer sun and can migrate out of the turf over time.

Material

Recycled styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR), most of it from repurposed vehicle tires.

Advantages

The most affordable option by a wide margin, decades of proven performance, strong shock absorption and energy return, and easy to source.

Considerations

It warms up in summer sun, has a darker industrial look, and can migrate or "splash" out of the turf over time. It is also facing tightening environmental regulation and growing preference for newer materials, especially on youth and school fields.

How we help

For many budget-conscious installs it is still a sound choice, and we will tell you honestly whether it fits your field, or whether stepping up to EPDM or TPE is worth it for your situation.

2-epdm

EPDM Rubber (Virgin)

A cleaner, engineered rubber purpose-made for turf rather than recycled from tires.

Virgin, non-recycled granules in uniform grain and a range of colors, with strong UV resistance and a long service life. No tire-derived contaminants, and colour options for field markings or branding. It costs more than crumb rubber, and the grade you choose matters.

Material

Virgin (non-recycled) ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber, produced as uniform granules and available in a range of colors.

Advantages

Consistent granule shape and density for predictable performance, strong UV resistance and a long service life, no tire-derived contaminants, and color options for markings or branding.

Considerations

It costs more than crumb rubber, still holds some warmth (lighter colors run cooler), and quality varies between manufacturers, so the grade you choose matters.

How we help

We source proven virgin EPDM and match the grade and color to your field, so you get the durability and cleaner profile without overpaying for a spec you do not need.

TPE (Thermoplastic Elastomer)

The premium, environmentally minded option, increasingly the standard on modern fields.

Recyclable elastomer pellets, PFAS-free, non-toxic and dust-free, that run cooler than rubber and resist migration and splash. The easiest story to stand behind for youth, school and public-access fields, and the highest-cost infill we carry.

Material

Engineered thermoplastic elastomer pellets, fully recyclable, with some brands (such as Guardian) made from bio-based inputs like corn and soy oil.

Advantages

PFAS-free, non-toxic and dust-free, runs cooler than rubber, resists migration and splash, lasts well, and is an easy story to stand behind for youth, school, and public-access fields.

Considerations

It is the highest-cost infill, and quality differs meaningfully by brand. Lower grades can firm up over time, so brand selection is key.

How we help

This is the strongest safety-and-liability story to bring to a school board or municipality, and we will point you to the specific brands and grades that hold up rather than the cheapest pellet on the market.

4-silica-sand

Silica Sand

The natural stabilizer, most effective as part of a system rather than on its own.

Kiln-dried crushed quartz that ballasts the turf, keeps fibers upright and drains well, without retaining heat the way rubber does. The most economical and fully non-toxic option, but on its own it offers little cushioning on high-use fields.

Material

Natural crushed quartz, kiln-dried and screened to uniform grain sizes (commonly #16 or #30). Rounded grades are gentler underfoot than angular ones.

Advantages

The most economical and fully non-toxic. It ballasts the turf and keeps fibers upright, drains well, and does not retain heat the way rubber does.

Considerations

On its own it offers little cushioning, which raises impact risk on high-use fields. It can compact over time, and lower grades can be dusty or abrasive.

How we help

We most often use silica as a stabilizing base beneath a performance infill, and we will spec rounded or coated grades where safety and feel matter, so the sand does its job without the downsides.
